Sean Miller
Photo by Kristopher MoranWriting has always been in Sean Miller’s blood. In first grade, he was one of the youngest kids to be taught to use the computer. Teachers and therapists thought that because of his disability and speech impediment, a computer would be a great asset to him. Four years later, his teacher was impressed by his stories for creative writing class. The teacher put an intriguing title on the blackboard and said “write the story.” Creative writing came to him naturally. One week after reading his story, she predicted that he would be a published author.
Sean has been writing stories since meeting that teacher in grade four. His attention turned to novels during the summers when he returned home from Carleton University in Ottawa. He was working for Abilities Magazine and became infatuated with the College Street area in Toronto. Sean was attracted to the distinctness of the streets in the neighborhood. So, one morning on the bus to work he opened his laptop and began what turned into 'Regaling on College Street', his first novel manuscript. Coincidentally, his Master’s in English at Carleton become the inspiration for his second unpublished novel /short story collection, 'Reading our Contemporaries'. This work is similar to 'Regaling on College Street' in that it is a multiple-narrative, but different in that the ten narrators are searching to validate their friendships, rather than celebrating the memories.
Sean is an avid sports fan. He sees sports as a narrative; he’s interested in sports as metaphor. This past year, he has expanded his literary interests: he has a desire to test unknown waters, and to combine elements. Currently, Sean is working on an epic centering around friends and relatives competing for eternal one-upmanship.
